Taughannock State Park, Tompkins County, NY
Official website: Taughannock State Park
This NY State Park boasts the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains at 215 feet in height. It's not necessarily the most impressive, I think Niagra Falls probably gets that honor, but it is still quite beautiful in it's own right and is in a far more quiet setting that isn't so crowded or built up.
It's definitely worth visiting if you're in the greater Ithaca area. Note that there are multiple ways to get a view of the falls. There is a visitor center and overlook up above the falls that gives you a really nice view of the falls at a distance that lets you see the surrounding gorge with cliffs that are upwards of 400 feet tall.
There is also a path that takes you up a bit higher than the overlook area to a different vantage point.
And there is a trail that is about 3/4 of a mile long that takes you out pretty close to the Falls at a level where you are standing at the bottom of the falls looking up.
The nice thing about Taughannock Falls is that it is accessible even during the winter months, so you get to see the falls all year round and it's worth seeing every season. It's quite beautiful when it's partially frozen.
